Human Development Scotland are holding a one day CPD training event which will look at working with complex trauma, exploring the challenges of working with girls and women who present with a history of trauma, and the impact on therapists and other professionals. The speakers are Dr Anne Marie Coleman and Dr Gail Taylor.

The content of the one day conference will comprise:

• Working therapeutically and effectively with girls and women who have experienced complex psychological trauma, abuse (including coercive control, physical, emotional, sexual and childhood sexual abuse) adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and attachment difficulties.
• Exploring the impact of the work (vicarious traumatisation and vicarious post traumatic growth) and identifying our barriers to engagement in this demanding area.

There will also be the opportunity to bring current case studies/supervision issues for discussion.

Dr Anne Marie Coleman — Anne Marie has a background in teaching, counselling, psychodynamic psychotherapy and supervision within the NHS, voluntary organisations and in private practice. She is trained in eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) and has spent most of her career working within an NHS Complex Psychological Trauma (CPT) Service. Her doctoral research is in the field of CPT (including Gender based Violence and Childhood Sexual Abuse), specifically looking at the impact of the work on clinicians. Recent research publication: Coleman, A; Chouliara, Z; Currie, K (2018). Working in the Field of Complex Psychological Trauma: A framework for personal and professional growth, training and supervision Journal of Interpersonal Violence.

Dr Gail Taylor — Gail has a background in teaching, later training as a psychologist, with a strong interest in working therapeutically with children, young people and their families. As well as mainstream day provision, Gail has worked in a residential school for adolescent girls, working in both local authority psychological services and in the voluntary sector. As Clinical Manager of the Notre Dame Centre, she was involved in providing non-directive therapy to children, young people and their families and carers. Gail is an Adult Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and currently has a private psychoanalytic psychotherapy practice in Glasgow. She offers consultancy and trains and supervises professionals working therapeutically with children and adults.
