Towards a Culture of Belonging in Adult Education

Thursday 24 October 2019, 10:00 – 13:00
Registration from 09:30

A seminar organised by Human Development Scotland to consider what constitutes a meaningful culture of belonging and how this might contribute to learning, retention and mental resilience in adult education organisations.

Aims:
• Exchange and explore experiences of alienation and belonging in educational situations
• Investigate how a culture of belonging might mitigate against current polarising extremes of opinion—political, social, economic, ecological
• Develop strategies to generate a culture of belonging for participants to take back to their places of employment as working ideas.

Human Development Scotland plan to offer the option of a follow-up seminar in the Spring of 2020 to review the viability of the various strategies discussed. CPD certificates will be issued following the event.

Speakers:
Ruth Jackson has worked as a lecturer in social science and manager of student services in community education in London and Ireland. She is currently an integrative psychodynamic therapist with Glasgow Southside Counselling.
Mary MacCallum Sullivan’s background is in psychotherapy and counselling education and training, at post-graduate level, as teacher, team leader and manager.
