Postdoctoral Research Associate, ‘Cultural Contexts of Health’

The post

The College wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to support the work of Dr Felicity Thomas. This full-time fixed term Wellcome Trust funded post is available immediately for 6 months. The successful applicant will be required to research and write a Position Paper for WHO Europe on Cultural Contexts of Health, with a specific focus on Anti-Microbial Resistance as a case study.

The post will sit within the Wellcome Centre for Cultures and Environments of Health and the WHO Collaborating Centre on Culture and Health at the University of Exeter.  Transdisciplinary in approach, both Centres bring together leading scholars across the medical humanities, social sciences and health research with the aim of creating and sustaining cultures and environments that enable health and well-being across the life course.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or be nearing completion, or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of social sciences and humanities methods and approaches to health research, and will be able to work within established research programmes. Applicants must also have experience of conducting risk assessments and an understanding of health and safety legislation.

The starting salary will be from £28,452 within the Grade E band (£26,052 – £30,175).
