Collaborative Workshop: ‘Deaf Heritage Collective’, Codebase, Edinburgh, 5 April 2019
We invite you to participate in the third of four collaborative workshops that explore the future of Deaf culture and heritage in Scotland. On the 5th April at Edinburgh’s Codebase we develop the conversation around Spaces of Cultural Participation: addressing issues of BSL in museum spaces, employment in the cultural sector, and support for new ventures.
In 2018, the Deaf Heritage Collective debated the possible futures of Deaf culture and the need to invest in a BSL infrastructure across Scotland’s cultural sector (one that reflected the rural and urban demographics of deaf communities and deaf artists). The recent publication of responses to the draft Cultural Strategy for Scotland provides an important backdrop: with an emphasis upon community-led, minority and linguistic cultures.
We hope that you will join us for a day of discussion and debate. Following the workshop there will be an evening reception and exhibition of work from deaf artists at the Traverse Theatre (from 5pm-7pm).
