This is a 0.5FTE/fixed term maternity cover for 6 months from 9th January 2017, at 17.5 hours per week.

Applications are invited for a temporary fixed-term Lectureship in History based within the Department of Social Sciences, Media and Journalism at Glasgow Caledonian University. History is a thriving area of learning teaching and research within GCU.

The main role of the successful candidate will be to contribute towards undergraduate teaching in History on the BA Social Sciences degree programme. This will include leadership of the Level 3 History module, ‘A Matter of Life and Death: the Battle of Health & Healthcare in the 20th Century’, and contributions towards the teaching of research methods and other history modules, as well as dissertation supervision at undergraduate level. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute towards the research culture and scholarship in History at the University.

Candidates will be expected to have a PhD (or near completion) in a relevant area and meet the following essential criteria:

  • Experience of teaching History at undergraduate level
  • Experience of History specific research methods
  • Experience of learning and teaching in Health History
  • A clear publication strategy
  • Research expertise in a relevant specialism
