CFP: Decolonising Science Narratives
11 October 2019, Science Museum, London
This workshop will bring together those working across and between disciplines and practices to critically reflect on the histories and realities of colonialism and science.
We invite papers, presentations and creative responses that engage with the themes of historic and contemporary colonial scientific practices from all disciplines in order to attempt to disentangle framings of science as “neutral”, “objective” and otherwise divorced from uncomfortable histories.
Participants might address:
– Histories and realities of colonialism and science
– Colonial narratives in science communication
– Colonial technology
– Natural histories and nonhuman narratives
– Creative engagements with uncomfortable histories in literature, film, music, exhibitions etc.
– Biocolonialism
– Indigenous epistemologies and scientific appropriations
– Classification, categorization and science collections
Please submit abstracts of 300 words for 20 minute papers or shorter creative provocations and a biography of no more than 100 words to
