Professor Linda Bryder seminar Wednesday 17th June

The Scottish Oral History Centre and the Centre for the Social History of Health and Healthcare (CSHHH) are pleased to announced that Professor Linda Bryder from the University of Auckland will be presenting on ‘Nursing Oral Histories’ on Wednesday 17th June in the Scottish Oral History Centre, 6th Floor Curran Building.

From 2012-14 Linda Bryder led an oral history project recording the lives and experiences of sixty nurses who trained in New Zealand in the 1950s and 1960s. Working with two History students over the summer of 2014-15 she then selected highlights from the interviews to be placed on a website along with short summaries of the nurses’ careers. This project revealed much about the practices and cultures of nursing and nurse training at this time, as well as the wider social and cultural environment of New Zealand. In this talk Linda will reflect on the findings of the project and the value of oral history.

Refreshments will be available as usual – all welcome!
