You are warmly invited to a Medical Humanities Wellcome Trust Research Bursaries Scheme Showcase, to be held at Glasgow University Library, Special Collections, on 5th March, at any time between 4pm and 6pm. A sample of archives and rare books will be on display to inspire research applications under the new Wellcome Trust Research Bursary scheme.
Sue Crossley (Wellcome Trust Research Resources Portfolio Development Manager) and Chris Hassan (Wellcome Trust Development Officer) will give two 15 minute presentations introducing the new scheme at 4.15pm and 5.15pm, respectively. They will also be available throughout the event to answer simple questions.
A limited number of one to one sessions to discuss projects in more depth may also be booked with Sue and Chris between 2 and 4 pm on Thursday 5th March and also for the morning of Friday 6th March. Contact Sue directly by email to arrange a session – s.crossley@wellcome.ac.uk.
About the scheme
The Wellcome Trust Research Bursaries Scheme is for small and medium-scale research projects based on library or archive collections supported by the Wellcome Trust. Full details of the scheme can be found on the Wellcome Trust Medical Humanities website.
Eligible Collections
The University of Glasgow Library and Archives have benefitted greatly from the Research Resources grant scheme. Awards totalling over £300,000 have been made making these collections eligible for funding under this new scheme. Collections available in Glasgow are particularly strong in 20thcentury psychiatry and psychological medicine (RD Laing), 18th century Scottish medicine (William Cullen), 20th century forensic medicine (John Glaister) and in human genetics since 1950 (Malcolm Ferguson-Smith). The recently catalogued collection of rare books on syphilis is also eligible for research funding under this scheme. Further details of the eligible collections can be found on this webpage.
